The Project

Bishop White is a K-Level III school in Port Rexton, Newfoundland and Labrador that has a population of 114 students and serves twelve communities.  The school and community with assistance from Let Them Be Kids, businesses and community support will be designing and building an outside play/recreational area on the school grounds.

The project requires an investment of time, talents and treasure (monetary and in-kind) to enhance the existing space to become a school and community area. We envision that our project over the short and long term will have the following components:

  • playground
  • community garden
  • outdoor classroom/performance area
  • walking track/adult fitness equipment
  • softball/soccer field area and
  • memorial park to remember former teachers, students and community heroes (soldiers who lost their lives in war).
*Final decisions as to the actual ideas of the outdoor space will be determined by all relevant stakeholders, including teachers, students, and community partners.

To make the above come true though we need your help and encourage you to sign up as a volunteer for our project, donate cash or in-kind services/talents to the project and help us spread the word to those near and far through sending the link to our website to your family and friends. Please also bookmark and subscribe to our site to receive regular updates on our progress.

We have set our Build Day for Saturday, September 21, 2013 and we encourage you to please reserve this day in your calendar to join us at Bishop White School for the day as we build our community area.

The area will be intergenerational - open to all ages - to enjoy.  Through the Let Them Be Kids program and the strong support of the community, it will become an active  gathering  area for enjoyable and safe activities. It will become a community gathering place, a place for conversations and new ideas to develop, a place for people to feel connected -  a place to have One Team, One Dream - Unite the Bight.
